Raising Positive Kids Part I

This post comes by request after Tikeetha read a post on perception determining your reality. She asked for tips on shaping your child’s perception when they tend to focus more on the negative than the positive. This is something adults and children alike struggle with. If children can be taught how to deal with this from an early age, it will be something that can serve them well as they grow. I’m going to share my personal practice I’ve used to train my brain to pay attention to the positive things. These tips will be a combination of what you can do as the parent in addition to what you can teach your child.

Discussing Privilege

I love opening up the conversation about things that may be uncomfortable but through the conversations we have can help change our perspective and inspire solutions. I love how the presenter of this talk approaches the subject of privilege and challenges people to use it to help others.  Continue reading “Discussing Privilege”

J.K. Rowling’s Teachable Moments

Today I wanted to share some teachable moments from J.K. Rowling’s life. As successful as she is today, I have to say I admire her transparency. She’s very open about the things she had to overcome to get to where she is today. I admire so many things about her and find her both incredibly inspirational and down to earth. It’s really hard for me to pick my favorite of the 10 rules of success in this video. They are all really good!  Continue reading “J.K. Rowling’s Teachable Moments”

Caring Enough to Take Action Creates Change

I actually had a completely different topic lined up to talk about today but a series of events prompted me to write about something that has been weighing heavily on my heart lately. While I don’t watch the news, I’m not completely oblivious to the events that happen around the world or unaware of the disconnection. It seems that this disconnection has been calling my attention louder each time. It’s a sense of separation, that somehow instead of us being a community, a unit, a collective made up of individuals impacted by the same things, we’re each little pods. If something happens that doesn’t directly impact one’s pod, it’s like it didn’t happen. Continue reading “Caring Enough to Take Action Creates Change”

Energy, Attention & Intention

pexels-photo-119342.jpg

It’s funny, today I was thinking about the importance of what you focus on. As a kid, I remember seeing behaviors, traits, and characteristics that I didn’t like and vowing to never do or be that way. The thing is, inevitably, I ended up doing and becoming the way I didn’t want to. During my journey of self-discovery, I realized that I had spent too much time taking note of and focusing on what I didn’t want. True to the saying, Continue reading “Energy, Attention & Intention”

Cultivate Happiness!

I think this quote is incredibly powerful! Don’t let yourself be fooled into thinking others are happy because of luck, fortune, wealth, or anything else. Happiness is cultivated! You can want for nothing and still not be happy. Today I just wanted to encourage you to remember to cultivate your happiness!  Continue reading “Cultivate Happiness!”
